 Pianist
Gisele Nacif Witkowski’s first performance at Carnegie
Hall received critical acclaim from the New York Concert Review,
which called it “one of the most genuinely fascinating
recital debuts in many a moon.” Ms. Witkowski has performed
extensively throughout Brazil, the United States, and Europe.
A native of Brazil, she received her Master’s degree
in Piano Performance from the Manhattan School of Music and
is in the final stages of her doctoral studies at the Hartt
School of Music under the tutelage of Luiz de Moura Castro.
Ms. Witkowski has won a number of first prizes in piano competitions
such as the Villa-Lobos National Contest and the Artists International
Young Artists Piano Award. She has appeared as a soloist with
the Philharmonic Orchestra of Rio Claro, the City of Sao Paolo
String Quartet, the Estate of Sao Paulo Symphony Orchestra,
among others. Ms. Witkowski has also performed extensively
in Italy at the Amalfi Coast Music Festival and at the Ravello
concert series, “Music of Two Americas”. In the
fall of 2002, she and her husband, Fabio Witkowski played
a four-hands program at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium
Stage as part of “Ravello in America”, an annual
celebration of the international Ravello Music Festival.
Ms. Witkowski is head of the Piano Department at the Hotchkiss
School in Connecticut where she has taught since 1999. She
is also co-director of the Piano Division of the Hotchkiss
Summer Arts Program in Italy held in cooperation with the
Amalfi Coast Music Festival & Institute.
