Telling Your Story:  A Workshop in Memoir and Personal Narrative

 

Joyce Maynard has been publishing personal essays and memoir since age 18, when she burst on the publishing scene with her New York TImes Magazine cover story, "An Eighteen Year Old Looks Back on Life".

In the 38 years since then, she has published six novels and four volumes of nonfiction, including the bestselling memoir At Home in the World, published in fourteen languages.  Her work has appeared in dozens of national magazines including Vogue, O, the Oprah Magazine, More, The New York Times Modern Love column, Newsweek and many others.  Her nationally syndicated column, "Domestic Affairs" was carried in over fifty newspapers nationwide.  She has also been a regular contributor to National Public Radio's "All Things Considered".  She has also been teaching memoir for many years, most regularly at the Lake Atitlan (Guatemala) Writing Workshop, which she founded in 2002.  Her latest novel, Labor Day, is under development as a film to be directed by Academy Award nominee Jason Reitman.
